Ideas for using eyelets

Here are just a few ideas for using eyelets in your albums:

  • Attach your photo mats to your page

  • Hold papers together and in place (eyelets are particularly great for attaching vellum to your page to avoid the problem with visible tape)

  • Create pocket pages - rather than taping the pockets to the page, use eyelets for a decorative approach.

  • Create tiny, reinforced holes through which you can string fibers and yarns. Eyelets also provide a place to thread and secure the fibers behind the page, out of sight!

    How to set eyelets

To add eyelets to your scrapbook pages, you will need:

  • Hole Punch (to match the size of your eyelet)
  • Eyelet Setting Tool (also must match the size of your eyelet)
  • Eyelets (circles, hearts, flowers!)
  • Pounding Mat
  • Hammer

    1. Decide where on your page you are going to place the eyelets. Arrange your papers in the desired order you want them -- the hole punch will punch two to three thicknesses of cardstock.

    2. Using your hole punch, make a hole in the paper(s) where you want the eyelet. Do this by placing the hole punch where you want the hole (be sure you are over the pounding mat), and tap the top of the hole punch two or three times with your hammer.

    3. Put your eyelet in the hole with the finished side on the front of your page. Place your page and eyelet front-side down on the pounding mat, and put the eyelet setting tool into the hole in the back of the eyelet. Tap the setting tool several times with your hammer until the edges flare and begin to flatten.

    4. Remove the setting tool and tap a two or three more times to flatten the eyelet.

    5. You're done! You can leave the eyelets as they are, or thread them with yarn or fibers. Either way, they look great!
